Guzzi Tips
Greetings Bill,
Essential things to do before firein' it up:
Install Bosch Platinum 4216 spark plugs (thanks, Patrick Hayes)
Remember to add Moly to rear drive oil (and a dab in your
hair, too, for that healthy look)Start an oil thread on the MGCL
(dino vs. synthetic is a great one, or, weight of
gear oil's good, too)http://www.inet-rendezvous.com/MGNOC/maillist.html
Essential things to do, afterwards (or, before, too, really):
Buy Guzziology http://www.motointernational.com/
Do the starter-relay modification (outlined and diagramed in
Guzziology)
Resolves a factory wiring defect that makes starting
more reliableDo the headlight-relay-direct-fused-line-from-battery modification
(outlined and diagramed in Guzziology)
After too long, I just did this. WOW! Let there be
light! Do it!Nelson Kline

Google Calendar HOWTO
- Go to http://calendar.google.com and log in if you have a Google account. If not, create one with the link on the lower-right.
Create a new calendar by clicking "add -> create a new calendar" on the left side.

- Next, select a descriptive title, fill in the form, and create your calendar. Make sure the "Share all information on this calendar with everyone" option is selected under "Share with everyone".
- Send us the public calendar address. In the lower-left menu click on the down arrow next to your new calendar and select "Calendar Settings". Under "Calendar Address" you'll see a string that looks like "(Calendar ID: hg4vgukbhtbnrn9fa36bu41q98@group.calendar.google.com)". That's the calendar ID which we need to find your calendar.
- Keep your calendar updated. As long as your calendar is up-to-date, we'll have ongoing access to what's going on with your group!

GPS to Google Map using gpsbabel and gpxgoogle
Use a bash script, invoking gpsbabel, to pull the gps points off the gps device. In my case, it's a Garmin gecko 301 on /dev/ttyS0.
#!/bin/bash
filename="`date +%y%m%d-%H%M`"
echo "creating $filename-tracklog.gpx"
gpsbabel -t -i garmin -f /dev/ttyS0 -o gpx -F $filename-trackl
With the gpx file and gpxgoogle, create an html file with a google map of the track. Configure gpxgoogle to use your google maps api key.
./gpxgoogle 070812-1817-tracklog.gpx > trail_20070812.html

Way to keep people passive
"The smart way to keep people passive and obedient is to strictly limit the spectrum of acceptable opinion, but allow very lively debate within that spectrum - even encourage the more critical and dissident views. That gives people the sense that there's free thinking going on, while all the time the presuppositions of the system are being reinforced by the limits put on the range of the debate."
-Noam Chomsky

People do not think
"What good fortune for those of us in power that people do not think."
-Adolf Hitler
The bad places of civilization
"If we cannot by reason, by influence, by example, by strenuous effort, and by personal sacrifice, mend the bad places of civilization, we certainly cannot do it by force."
-- Auberon Herbert, 1894

"In History, stagnant waters, whether they be the stagnant waters of custom or those of despotism, harbour no life; life is dependent on the ripples created by a few eccentric individuals. In homage to that life & vitality, the community has to brave certain perils and must countenance a measure of heresy. One must live dangerously if one wants to live at all."
Herbert Read
